Ventura County Pool Pros is a no-cost referral service for pool and spa owners from Ojai to Oak Park and from the coast to Piru. You tell us what's wrong, and we pass your request to one independent local pool technician or contractor who serves your area. We don't do the work ourselves, and there's nothing to pay us.

What should I check before calling a pool technician?

  1. Water level: it should reach about the middle of the skimmer opening.
  2. Baskets: clear the skimmer and pump baskets of leaves.
  3. Breaker and timer: has the breaker tripped, or did a timer or automation schedule change? If a breaker trips again after one reset, leave it off.
  4. Filter pressure: compare the gauge to its usual clean reading.
  5. Error codes: photograph any heater or automation code before resetting.

Leave wiring, gas connections, and chemical mixing to a professional.

Electrical safety around pools: if anyone feels a tingle or shock in the water, get everyone out without touching metal ladders, rails, or lights, keep people away, and shut off power to the pool equipment at the breaker if you can do that from a dry spot. Then call an electrician or pool technician before anyone swims again. If you smell gas near a pool heater, leave the area and call 911 or SoCalGas from a safe distance.

What kinds of pool problems can you help with?

Requests usually fall into a few groups: equipment that stopped working (pumps, filters, heaters), water that is disappearing (leak detection), water that has turned (green pool cleanup), surfaces that have worn out (resurfacing and replastering), aging pads that need a plan (equipment upgrades), and making a pool safer for children (pool safety and barriers).

Pools in Ventura County: what's local about it?

  • Two climates. Coastal pools in Ventura, Oxnard, and Port Hueneme battle salt air and corrosion. Inland pools in Simi Valley, Moorpark, Fillmore, Ojai, and the Conejo Valley battle heat, evaporation, and fast algae growth.
  • Hard water is common in much of the county, leading to scale on tile, in heaters, and on filter elements.
  • Santa Ana winds load pools with leaves and dust, and wildfire seasons bring ash.
  • Drought years make leaks and evaporation matter more, and local agencies have restricted water use in the past.
  • Permits come from the city for incorporated areas and from the County of Ventura for unincorporated communities like Oak Park, Somis, Lake Sherwood, and the Ojai Valley towns.

Why use a referral service?

  • One request, one provider. Your details go to one independent local pool pro, not a list of companies.
  • Straight information. Our pages explain common causes and safe first steps so you can talk with the technician confidently.
  • You stay in control. Get an estimate, ask questions, and hire only if it's right for you.

Before you hire anyone

Check the contractor's license at cslb.ca.gov. Pool contractors in California commonly hold a C-53 swimming pool license, and electrical or gas work may involve other trades. Ask for proof of liability insurance and workers' compensation, get a written estimate, and don't pay a large deposit. California generally limits home improvement down payments to 10% of the contract price or $1,000, whichever is less.

What affects the cost?

We don't publish prices because they vary widely. The main factors are the part or equipment involved, the brand and size, the age and access of the equipment pad, whether plumbing or electrical changes are needed, and whether permits are required. Ask for the diagnosis and the price in writing before work starts.

Frequently asked questions

Is Ventura County Pool Pros a pool company?

No. We're a no-cost referral service that connects pool and spa owners with independent local pool technicians and contractors. We don't do the work, and the provider you hire is responsible for its license, insurance, permits, and work.

What should I do if someone feels a shock in the pool?

Get everyone out without touching metal, keep people away, and shut off power to the pool equipment at the breaker if you can do it from a dry spot. Have an electrician or pool technician check it before anyone swims again.

How do I know if my pool is leaking?

Use the bucket test: set a bucket of pool water on a step, mark both levels, and compare after 24 hours. If the pool drops noticeably more than the bucket, a leak is likely.

Why did my pool turn green so quickly?

Usually the sanitizer ran out or circulation stopped, often because of a pump, timer, or salt cell problem. Warm weather, debris, and rain speed it up. Fix the equipment cause as well as the water.

Do you serve the whole county?

Yes. We take requests from all ten cities in Ventura County and many unincorporated communities, including Oak Park, Somis, Santa Rosa Valley, Lake Sherwood, Bell Canyon, Piru, and the Ojai Valley communities.

Will more than one company contact me?

No. We send your request to one independent local provider that covers your area.
